Fireman

Last year around Halloween, I decided I wanted to try and make Will's costume for this year.  Well, I waited around until the last minute, but I got it done before Halloween.

Will is enamored with firemen.  Anytime we drive by a fire station, he checks to see if the doors are open and if he can see a fire truck.  We've made cookies for firemen, been to visit a station here in town, and even got a personal tour by Will's great Uncle Jack who is a real live fireman! So, I knew that's what he needed to be for Halloween.

I used a McCall's pattern (M6222).  It was for a long-sleeve button down shirt and cargo pants.  The hubby found an orange vest at Wal-Mart that I cut into strips and added to the shirt and pants.  It was also the hubs idea to put his name on in velcro so that when little brother is big enough to wear it, we can just switch it out! We had a Junior Fireman's badge sticker we got when we took cookies to the firemen, so I just sewed it on to look like a real badge.

Will was pretty excited about it - so it made it all worth it! I loved it when he told people, "I'm a fireman! My mommy made it!"

Travel car mat

Will LOVES cars! Just about every time we walk out the door to go somewhere, he has a car/truck/train in each hand.  About once a week I have to clean all of his vehicles out of my vehicle.  Even though he likes to take them with us in the car, he can't exactly play with them, unless he is "booming" them, as he says, on his legs. So, I decided to make something that he could "boom" his cars on while we're out and about.

I've seen many different variations of travel car mats online, but this is my version.  The actual mat is felt.  There are 5 "garages" where the cars can park for easy fold up and travel.  Will travels with his mat all over the house and when we actually travel. It's nice because he can still "boom" his cars, but it's in a smaller area so he's not making a huge mess in the car, at a restaurant, in a hotel, etc. Plus, having the garages for the cars, ensures they all stay where they are supposed to - instead of all over the floor for me to step on!

Travel car tracks are $12.00 plus tax - and do not include the cars.

April's purse

Several months ago I made these bags/purses for the 2011 pay it forward.  I made 5 of them and sent them to the first 5 that responded to my post on facebook.  I seemed to get pretty good feedback on these bags. They told me they used them as a camera gear bag, book bag, diaper bag, or purse.  I loved them, but am horrible about making things for myself.  Well, about a month or so ago, I had two weddings to go to (at the same time on the same day) and I needed a purse to match.  So - I decided to whip one of these little bags up for myself! I got more compliments on it at both of the weddings and then the next week or so as I took it everywhere I went.

At church, I ran into a friend of mine that liked my purse so much - she wanted one for herself.  Since she was my first order of this bag it's named after her: April's purse.
It's about 12in tall x 15in wide (at the base ... it tapers up at the top). The straps are about 9in - just perfect to carry on your arm.  I did make one of them with longer straps that you can carry on your shoulder.

Each of these listed below are $12.00 plus tax.

What do you think of them?  What about the straps? Do you like them shorter to carry on your arm? Or longer to carry on your shoulder? What would you carry in April's purse?

MADE shorts

Yesterday I read this blog and thought ... I NEED to make these shorts for Will.  So, during the boys nap, I made a pair.  I ended up having the same brown currduroy that she had, so I made some red bias tape and whipped these right up! They were so easy! And I think they are super cute! He wore them today to the last day of VBS.
